Do your door locks go crazy and activate when you’re driving. Here is a way to find the problem

There is extra resistance in the lift gate, the circuit that you took out. It will not read 2 volts when pulled to ground unless there is ground resistance.

@michaelovitch Dude, think about how many people comment on ALL of the video’s he has. If he had to answer every single comment about every video he has, he’d practically be a slave to this channel, wind up gettin burned out on it all and quit makin videos, and then nobody would get to share in the knowledge he posseses.

I’d try doing a voltage drop test across the switch. From what I saw in the video, voltage drop on either the switch or the circuit will tell the tale.
A wonderful job. Super helpful inofmration.

I thought it was a bad wire but now looks like it’s the tailgate switch. I’d try running a ground through that connector to trigger the lock to see if it works as expected. that labscope makes the job way easier than using a multi meter though

@aeligos Haha or any domestic mechanic for that matter.
I have been noticing on this channel that most of the bizarre problems have been on domestic vehicles as well.

most of the time the problem is in the outside fuses box the wires comes green

What do the connector terminals look like? Could there be water intrusion inside the switch?
door locks
@happy543210 I would go along with that if the problem persisted when the tailgate lock switch was unplugged. Since it didn’t stay shorted, I still think the problem is in the switch. Good thinking, though. I hadn’t thought of that.

looks like that lift gate switch needs replacing

I think the built in locking cylinder is the problem since the voltage is normal when you disconnect the connection from the lift gate

michaelovitch , michaelovitch , michaelovitch , where have you’ve been in the last few months? Sure Duane could just lay out everything and show us what the solution is, but it’s better for us to guess at the fix for the problem. Didn’t you see the “What’s Wrong With It?” video a couple of months ago? Everyone enjoyed it, and if Duane makes a few bucks from more comments and Adsense, then everyone wins…………except people who complain about it.

@foxdmulder Yes. My subscriptions hasn’t shown a REALFIXESREALFAST video upload since Tony damn near put them out of business with his little brake ‘repair’ video. lol

The built in switch in the locking cylinder needs to be swapped.

@spelunkerd So could I, I have found the way he approaches a problem and finds a solution very clear and concise. He should be teaching the mechanics in my local Ford and Vauxhall garages in the UK what to do. All they can do is read fault codes, none of them know how cars work!
Talking of door locks, I have programmed my car via the diagnostics port to auto-lock the doors at 8MPH and unlock when I take the keys out! It can be switched on or off and emergency unlocking isn’t affected.

@foxdmulder Yes, they must be running another beta test in a production environment. They’re pretty good at that!
Hope they find better programmers soon!

@foxdmulder I have been having the same issue I thought it was just me, I’ve missed a lot of new videos. Wonder what the problem is.

@mobilemechman I don’t think it’s the gate lock. I think it’s a broken wire on the harness at the point where the lift gate hinges on the car’s body…that’s were constant movement (lifting and lowering the gate) will cause the wires to break and either short out on each other or on a body ground.
